Out and About

There are so many things to do on the Big Island, that range according to the terrain and how adventuresome you are.  Everything from excellent hiking, to caving, visiting the volcanoes, the rain forest, zip-lining, and all manner of water sports, of course.

We've had guests that have also visited some of the farming, wineries and coffee-growing plantations.  There are botanical gardens as well, if you like a more formalized experience.  Below are some photos from some of the places we have visited and enjoyed.

Kona Village is a lovely Polynesian-style environment that is half historical representation and half tourist attraction.  Nonetheless, they have a good though expensive luau, and it is very pretty to walk through the environment.

Hiking near the volcanoes can be very interesting.  You can also take a boat tour and watch the lava extend itself into the sea, assuming that the mountain is erupting during your visit.
The rain forest is also an amazing place to walk, and the ferns and orchids are legendary.  This type of landscape is found on the other side of the island over the mountain ridge - but well worth the trip.

There are both lava tubes and other types of caves that you can swim in and explore - check one of the guidebooks at the condo for good places to go.
